I have been most fortunate during my 35 year career to gain experience from large corporates to smaller, early-stage companies within the UK and in Asia, working for the most part in the key fields of financial services and human capital.
After completing undergraduate studies in Business Administration, I pursued a passion to work for the Red Cross, where I spent seven adventure-packed years on their international operations team. I have been in a number of conflict zones and seen the after effects of numerous natural disasters all around the globe, the experience of which has played a key part in shaping my values and world outlook.
Taking a very different direction, I joined RBS as a strategy consultant, going on to run various parts of its payments division. I headed up Streamline International (the multi-currency card acceptance business that is now one of the fastest growing parts of Worldpay) and I was also part of the RBS team that negotiated a 10% stake in the Bank of China. On the back of that, I relocated to China where I became Deputy CEO of their credit card joint venture.
After leaving RBS I remained in China to set up the country franchise of the Talent Q Group, a leading psychometric assessment tool provider in the human capital sector. I subsequently returned to the UK as CEO of the Group, where I led the business through a period of rapid growth before selling the company to Hay Group/Korn Ferry in 2014.
The most recent chapter of my career has seen me become involved in supporting a range of high growth companies. This has been in a mix of roles, including angel investor, consultant, an NED and as an operating partner for a VC firm. During this period I have been able to draw upon my experience with scaling smaller companies and taking them through an exit, while further developing my own understanding of the very similar issues that many growth companies face as they scale their business.
